Steckbrief – Facts, figures and milestones

FC Bayern München (FCB), founded on February 27, 1900, are the world's largest sports club by membership with 432,500 members (as of November 2025). The club were not among the Bundesliga's founding members but have played in the top flight without interruption since 1965/66 — the longest unbroken run of any current Bundesliga club.

The first match in club history took place on the municipal pitch at Schyrenstraße. FCB beat 1. Münchner FC 5-2. From 1900 to 1907, the club played in Schwabing at Clemensstraße 50, then moved to Leopoldstraße. From 1925, FCB played for 47 years at the Grünwalder Stadion — as tenants of local rivals 1860 München until the end of the Second World War.

For the 2006 World Cup, a new stadium was built in Fröttmaning at the northern edge of Munich. Both FC Bayern and 1860 München initially played at the new arena, which is restricted to football events. The two clubs originally held 50% each in the stadium company, the Allianz Arena München Stadion GmbH. Bayern later acquired full ownership.

The professional football division was spun off in 2001 into FC Bayern München AG. The shareholders are: 75.00% Fußball-Club Bayern München e.V., and 8.33% each for Adidas AG, Allianz SE and Audi AG. The AG operates in two business areas: football operations (marketing the professional squads) and the Allianz Arena (stadium operations and events).
